Our History

Troop 520 is currently chartered out of Signal Hill United Methodist Church. Signal Hill is a small neighborhood in Belleville, IL. The Troop started as part of the Kaskaskia Council back in 1925 as Troop 20. Back then Signal Hill was part of East St. Louis, IL so the original troop flag actually says East St. Louis instead of Belleville as it does today. Signal Hill became part of Belleville in 1972 which necessitated a change to the Troop flag. In 1965 following the consolidation of the Kaskaskia Council and the Mississippi Valley Council the Okaw Valley Council was formed and the 5 was added to make us Troop 520.  In 2009 Okaw Valley Council and Trails West Council merged to form The Lewis & Clark Council which in turn merged into the Greater St. Louis Area Council in 2016 (Which technically put an 8 at the beginning of the 520 but it is only used on paperwork). Most recently an all girls Troop 520 has stood up and became one of the most successful in the council.
